Goals:

  • Increase participants ability to provide culturally responsive, neurodiversity-affirming care by recognizing how neurodivergence influences the therapeutic process.

  • Increase participants’ ability to apply practical adaptations to assessment, communication, treatment planning, and clinical interventions.

Objectives:

  • Describe how neurodivergence can influence communication, emotional expression, executive functioning, sensory experiences, and engagement in therapy.

  • Recognize common clinical assumptions and therapist biases that may affect assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment of neurodivergent clients.

  • Apply practical adaptations to communication, session structure, and therapeutic interventions to better meet the needs of autistic and ADHD clients.

  • Integrate neurodiversity-affirming principles into clinical practice to provide culturally responsive care that respects clients' individual experiences, communication styles, and treatment goals.
