Therapaideia Training Collective, PLLC proudly presents a 3 day Advanced Clinical Intensive with:
Neuroaffective Embodied Self Therapy (N.E.S.T.) integrates neuroaffective strategies, ego state work, and EMDR to treat complex trauma, dissociation, and implicit early memory.
This three-day intensive emphasizes assessment, Neuro-affective regulation, Self-System integration, and Temporal Intergration to resolve Early Trauma.
All 8 phases of EMDR as well as the AIP (Adaptive Information Processing) theory will be discussed to create assislimiation in the Standard EMDR Protocol.
Each day will offer robust lecture and experiential practicum opportunities for safe, developmentally attuned learning environment.
Hybrid Training will take place in Scottsdale, AZ Friday 2/5/2027-Sunday 2/7/2027.

About Sandra Paulsen, Ph.D.
Sandra Paulsen, Ph.D., is an international instructor, author and illustrator of principles and procedures for using EMDR with complex trauma including structural and somatic dissociation and trauma held in implicit memory.
Her books include coediting The Neurobiology and Treatment of Traumatic Dissociation: Toward an Embodied Self. She wrote and illustrated Looking Through the Eyes of Trauma: An Illustrated Guide for EMDR Therapists and Clients; and When There Are No Words: EMDR for Very Early Trauma in Implicit Memory, and coauthored We’re Listening Body: Integrating EMDR, Somatic and Ego State Therapies.
Other books include: The Beauty and Burden of Autism: An Illustrated Guide and Workbook, and Indigenous Trauma and Dissociation: Healers, Psychotherapies and the Drum, with Shelley Spear Chief. She also coauthored and illustrated a children’s book that is also useful for dissociative adults called All the Colors of Me: My First Book on Dissociation. Sandra is a Fellow of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation.
She developed the first protocol for the use of EMDR with highly dissociative individuals, publishing cautions about EMDR with dissociation, and for first urging the screening of every client for dissociation before administering EMDR.
She has trained thousands of mental health professionals in these special procedures since 1993. She lives in a log house in the forest on Bainbridge Island, near Seattle, Washington, USA where she does intensive treatment in the three-day format.

Although not cookie cutter because of each unique nature of presenting complex case, the N.S.T approach goes a considerable distance to systematizing the process.
The N in NST works directly on the brain using Neuro-affective strategies to enhance affect regulation and inviting the brain to interrupt its deeply engrained neural pathway habits to try a new strategy: the hallmark of plasticity and transformation.
The S in NST enlists the client's Self-System and deconflictualizing through ego state work by giving a voice to the pushed away or disowned aspects of self.
The T in NST involves Temporal Integration through hearing the client's infant self-state's untold story and navigating ego state system dynamics to link adaptive neural nets and repair unmet milestones in the imagination.
Integrating all 8 phases of EMDR Therapy an Adaptive Information Processing Theory, N.S.T provides a frame work to resolve early trauma through integrating Early Trauma EMDR (ET-EMDR) through therapist attunement and resolving development injury.
Referring to leading edge applications from neuroscience, including innovations such as Resetting the Pankseppian affective circuits and shame, cranial electrical stimulation, interruptive, neurofeedback, and more.
Beginning in the initial interview with case formulation and treatment planning, the approach has an eye to whether the client has i) positive and negative affect and soma tolerance, ii) a cooperative or conflictual ego state system, iii) loyalty to the aggressor, and iv) structural dissociation, requiring a fractionated approach to trauma processing.
In this modified offering of the original N.E.S.T approach, Dr. Paulsen will deliver the protocol: N.S.T.: Neuro-affective Strategies, Client's Self System, and Temporal Integration.
EMDR Phase 1:
History, Case Formulation and Treatment Planning
EMDR Phase II:
Preparation: Resetting the Affective Circuits and other interruptive methods and devices.
Participants will be able to:
→ Increase client willingness to use a structured clinical interview.
→ Efficiently obtain information needed for case formulation and treatment planning.
→ Identify possible signs of an undiagnosed dissociative disorder that would derail EMDR.
→ Utilize information from intake interview to formulate case from AIP point of view.
→ Identify whether an elongated Phase II – Preparation is needed to address structural or somatic dissociation.
→ Identify whether standard unmodified EMDR Therapy or Early Trauma – EMDR Therapy is indicated.
→ Define the three levels of Panksepp’s affective processing.
→ Reset the Pankseppian subcortical affect circuits.
→ List four devices that help with Neuroaffective regulation.

Using Ego-State Therapy to shift from Loyalty from Aggressor to Self
Assembling the Patchwork Quilt through Fractionate Processing
Participants will be able to:
→ Use conference room to identify internal conflicts for mediation.
→ Define ego and object awareness and their uses in ego state therapy.
→ Work with perpetrator introjects to reduce loyalty to the aggressor.
→ Speak directly to parts to give voice to unconscious reenactments.
→ Define BASK elements of dissociation.
→ List three dimensions within which abreactions can be fractionated.
